Weighted Grade Calculator

Calculate your weighted grade from each category’s score and weight — enter your grades and their weights to get the overall percentage and letter grade.

How to calculate a weighted grade

A weighted grade counts each category by how much it’s worth. Multiply every grade by its weight, add those products, and divide by the total weight. Enter your scores and their weights above — one per line or separated by commas — and the calculator returns the overall percentage and the letter grade.

weighted grade = Σ(grade × weight) ÷ Σ(weight)

For example, homework 92% (weight 40), exams 85% (35) and the final 78% (25) give (92×40 + 85×35 + 78×25) ÷ 100 = 86.05% (B). The weights don’t have to add up to exactly 100 — the calculator divides by whatever total you enter.

Frequently asked questions

How do you calculate a weighted grade?

Multiply each grade by its weight, add those products, then divide by the total weight: Σ(grade × weight) ÷ Σ(weight). For example, 92% (weight 40), 85% (35) and 78% (25) give (92×40 + 85×35 + 78×25) ÷ 100 = 86.05%.

What is a weighted grade?

A weighted grade counts some assessments more than others. If the final exam is worth 25% and homework only 40% combined, a high homework score matters less than the same score on the final. The weights reflect how much each part counts toward your overall mark.

What letter grade is my percentage?

On the common US scale: 90% and above is an A, 80–89% a B, 70–79% a C, 60–69% a D, and below 60% an F. This calculator shows the letter grade alongside the weighted percentage; your school’s exact cutoffs may vary.
