How to convert steps to miles

Steps become miles once you know your stride length. Multiply your steps by your stride length, then divide by 63,360 (the number of inches in a mile). Stride depends on height and pace, so the calculator estimates it from your height — about 0.41 × your height for walking, and a longer stride for running — and converts your step count to miles and kilometers.

miles = steps × stride length (in) ÷ 63,360

For most people 10,000 steps is about 4–5 miles of walking. At an average of roughly 2,000–2,500 steps per mile, the exact figure depends on your height: taller people take fewer, longer steps. Enter your height above for a number based on your own stride.
