Discount Calculator
Calculate a discount and the final sale price — enter the original price and a discount as a percent or a dollar amount to see the sale price and how much you save.
How to calculate a discount
A discount is the amount taken off a price. For a percentage off, multiply the price by the discount percentage to get the savings, then subtract that from the price for the sale price. Enter the original price and the discount above — as a percent or a flat dollar amount — and the calculator shows both the amount you save and the final price.
sale price = price − (price × discount%), you save = price × discount%
For example, 25% off an $80 item saves $20, for a $60 sale price. Working the other way, an $80 item marked down to $60 is a $20 saving — (80 − 60) ÷ 80 = 25% off. Switch the discount type to a dollar amount and the calculator shows the equivalent percentage.
Percent off, stacked discounts and tax
Two discounts do not simply add up. Taking 20% off and then another 10% off is not 30% off — the second cut applies to the already-reduced price, so it works out to 28% off. To stack, apply them one after the other. And remember the price here is before sales tax: tax is charged on the discounted amount at checkout, so run the sale price through the sales tax calculator for the final total.

Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate a discount?
Multiply the price by the discount percentage to get the amount off, then subtract it from the price. For 25% off $80: 80 × 0.25 = $20 off, so the sale price is $60. Enter the price and discount above and the calculator does it — as a percent or a flat dollar amount.
What is 20% off of $50?
20% off $50 is 50 × 0.20 = $10 off, leaving a sale price of $40. To find any “X% off,” multiply the price by X ÷ 100 for the savings and subtract. The calculator shows both the amount saved and the final price instantly.
How do I calculate the percent off from two prices?
Subtract the sale price from the original, divide by the original, and multiply by 100. From $80 down to $60 is (80 − 60) ÷ 80 × 100 = 25% off. Switch the discount type to a dollar amount above and the calculator shows the equivalent percentage.
Does the discount calculator include sales tax?
No — it shows the pre-tax sale price and your savings. Sales tax is added on the discounted price at checkout, so use the sales tax calculator afterward to get the final out-the-door total.
